Message from the Premier

On 26 April 2006, our Government unveiled a vision to position central Dandenong as the capital city of our south east and a great location for people to live, learn, work and socialise.

We pledged $290 million for the revitalisation towards that vision and have been working in partnership, through VicUrban, the City of Greater Dandenong and the community to deliver it. This historic initiative is the largest urban renewal project in Victoria since Melbourne Docklands.

The plan has emerged from the community and is designed to capitalise on Dandenong's social and economic strengths and I commend the many residents, traders, landowners and visitors who have taken part in the extensive consultation process over the past two years.

This Urban Master Plan details a vision to transform Lonsdale Street into one of Melbourne's great boulevards and establish a vibrant City Walk to connect Dandenong Station with the city centre.

Improvements to the Station Precinct will transform the area into a safe and vibrant gateway to central Dandenong, while a new western entry will be created with the George Street Bridge.

This is an exceptional opportunity to revitalise central Dandenong - and I invite all existing and future residents and businesses to help us to turn this vision into reality.

John Brumby MP, Premier of Victoria.
